Dog Days of Downtown Silver Spring

This past Saturday was the first Dog Days of Downtown Silver Spring event, and we had a beautiful day for it.  The event was also a grand opening for the fabulous new pet store in Silver Spring, Living Ruff.  Owners Ron and Jessica are animal lovers first and foremost, and have put together a store of high quality products, healthy food and treats, and unique gifts for pet lovers. And their location can’t be beat, right in the heart of Downtown Silver Spring.

Ron and Jessica were gracious enough to invite me to have a table at the event, along with some other fabulous vendors and organizations. I met so many wonderful people and pets (who I hope I’ll have the chance to work with soon!).

Here are a few of my favorites:

They had face painting for kids… with a cat or dog theme.

Ron and Jessica were handing out delicious looking doggie treats.

I love Weimaraners.

Canine Companions for Independence brought some of the cutest dogs.

In this heated election season, every opinion must be heard. The folks at Pawlitical Pooch set up an independent poll for politically-minded pooches. Unofficial exit polling had the donkeys favored over the elephants.

Artist Glen Kessler explains the process of making a pet portrait.

The new Living Ruff store, located right on Georgia Avenue.

These Bernese Mountain Dogs were two of my favorite dogs of the day. They were so sweet…

… and a bit of a handful…

These two made me laugh.

I love the layers of dogs in this one…

I may be biased, but I think the cutest puppy EVER, was Hogan, the CCI puppy! (smile)

Incredible photography, great job of taking an event where most people would take ‘snapshots’ and turning them into photographs. I’d like to see the photos linked to a gallery with EXIF data. Very nice.

I love the candidness of these photos. I actually recognized someone. The lady with the Bernese Mountain dogs, she was an instructer I had in college. Small world!

Event photography is NOT easy to do but you’ve made it look effortless. These shots are incredible and so photo journalistic. Fantastic!
