ProPhoto2 Blog Theme Released

For my non-photographer friends who visit this blog, apologies for the lack of pet photography in this post. This is mostly going to interest my professional photographer friends (who will be especially excited about the discount code below).

With the release of WordPress 2.7 this week, the good folks who developed the popular ProPhoto blog theme have also released their latest version of the theme. I was lucky enough to be on the beta testing team and now that it’s been released to the public, I wanted to share my thoughts. If you’re viewing this in an RSS reader, you’ll want to jump out of it and check out the actual post.

ProPhoto is an affordable way to create a beautiful, fully-customized blog to show off your photography. You are now able to customize just about everything without having to mess around with code. Changing the look of your site is as easy as picking a text color in your word processing software.

A few of my favorite features of the new ProPhoto theme are the dropdown pages I’ve used for my About Me section and the slick built-in contact form. Just click on the menu and the page will drop down. Click again and it will disappear. It’s a great way to present a lot of information but also keep the blog clean and uncluttered. Another cool feature is that you can create multiple layouts and then save them for future use. This is great if you like to keep things fresh and change the look of your site often.

There are also so many “behind the scenes” improvements: search engine optimization, image loading optimization, Google analytics integration, Twitter integration, FeedBurner integration, etc. You will need to upgrade to WordPress 2.7 to use the new ProPhoto them, but the good news is that this is the last time you’ll need to upgrade WordPress manually. From now on, WordPress will update itself when there are new releases. Phew!

If you’re interested in purchasing the ProPhoto theme, you may use this code for a $10 discount: SBOBB232. Existing ProPhoto customers only have to pay the difference in the two versions rather than the full price of the new theme!

I know this sounds like an ad, but it’s not at all. I’ve just been very pleased with the ProPhoto product and customer service and wanted to share my experience. Jared, the brains behind it all, is very responsive to questions and feedback, and I know there are only more good things to come. I love the look and functionality of my blog so much more than some expensive custom blogs I’ve seen.

If you’re still not convinced, here is a short video for ProPhoto 2:

Feel free to leave questions in the comments and I’ll be happy to answer them. Thanks for reading, and we’ll be back to our regularly scheduled pet photography posts very soon!

Andrew Rozell - I just came across your site for the first time and really enjoyed it. I will make sure to bookmark it and make it another dog blog I frequent. I hope to be in the Dallas Dog market early next year. Keep up the great work!

Jamie - Looks awesome Stephen! Wish Jared had had this menu option (with the menu UNDER the header) when I tweaked mine- it would have saved me hours of work, lol! I really like the drop-down ‘about’, although still wish somehow he could squeeze a tiny sidebar onto the 900 px wide blog. (A 1000 pix blog? hee hee) And super sweet that you got to work on the beta, “dog photographers reprezent”!
