It’s Been Awhile

It’s been awhile since I took Jingles and Cooley out for a little photo shoot.  We had some great light the other day and I wanted to play with my 50mm 1.2 lens.  For my photographer friends, most of these were shot at 1.2.

For those who don’t know, Jingles and Cooley really do love each other.  They just like to play rough.  Jingles (left) is usually the aggressor, but Cooley is the instigator.  Here’s a typical “love bite.”

These next few are what photographers call “Hail Marys,” because they’re taken without looking through the viewfinder.  I just held the camera low and shot away, praying I’d get something good.  I actually really like these.

Here the boys are excited to see our neighbor’s Greyhound, Cleo.  They like to growl and bark at her.  I wonder why she doesn’t like coming over to play anymore?

Back to biting…

Jingles guards “The Wall,” and waits to greet the mailman with his howl.

Finally, a little rest after the shoot.  For the record, this is Cooley’s bed.  Jingles likes to sleep with us at night.  Cooley is the smart one, he realized he could have a whole bed to himself.

May 29, 2008 - 6:09 am Jamie Pflughoeft - God these are gorgeous Stephen. I stopped by a few days ago and looked at the shots for the first time and was really blown away. Clearly you know that lens very well already! And the cutest subjects too of course, heh heh. The shots of Jingles on the blue wall are to die for. I swear you can take any dog on any porch (front or back) and make the shot look amazing. I vote for a big coffee table book of Fidojournalism 'dogs on porches' photos! :-)

June 15, 2008 - 5:39 am Frances - I agree with Jamie the one on the wall are Great. There all great. Thank for sharing. I have to ask.......:) How do you get it so sharp with that f-stop. What's the trick?

August 2, 2008 - 7:28 pm Tanner Cooley - Just wanted to say thanks for sharing. You are quite the photographer and your dogs look like a ton of fun.
